What does happiness mean to you, and why should you invest in having a more meaningful and joyful life? Is your happiness tied to being healthier, more resilient, kinder, more creative, or more successful? Anchor your happiness to something more eternal, not earthly. Wanting long life, strong immunity, and emotional stability is good. Practicing generosity and making wise decisions is even better, but none of those things will matter when the end goal is eternal life. Without Christ, even the greatest achievements fade into nothing on the last day.
If we want more meaningful and mindful lives, we must consider the outcomes we want for ourselves. Yes, we want to define our purpose and grow in self-awareness. We want to embrace mindful living, practice gratitude, master our emotions, and fill our hearts with compassion. We want to build communities where we intentionally live kindness as a lifestyle but none of this matters if Christ is not at the center of it all.
I’ve practiced meditation for a few years now, and while it can be helpful, I realize the Bible encourages us that if we’re going to live meaningful lives, it is best to be mindful of God’s Word at all times. The art of contentment is still a powerful concept, powerful enough to reshape our attitudes towards life. The true tragedy is reaching the top, only to realize you’ve climbed the wrong ladder and are standing on the wrong foundation.
Films that celebrate morality without acknowledging salvation are rampant. We often absorb the idea that goodness alone is enough. Yet without Jesus, even our goodness is just a shadow of the life He has intended for us.
It is good to slow down and stretch, practice mindful meditation, and do breathing exercises as those practices steady our earthly bodies, but only God steadies our souls. We should engage in hobbies and practice taking care of our mental and physical health since our bodies are temples of the Holy Ghost; these are only tools to help support us, but they must never substitute what sustains us.
